Frequently Asked Questions

Unbuilt Lab is an AI-powered startup opportunity scanner that helps entrepreneurs discover evidence-backed startup opportunities. We scan 12+ rich and trusted public data sources to find real gaps in the market, then score each opportunity across six dimensions. The Reports and Blueprints we produce are research artifacts and a rigorous funnel input for your own customer validation — they are not a guarantee of viability or success.
No. We do not validate ideas on your behalf. What we do is surface opportunities grounded in real demand signals from 12+ public sources, score them across six dimensions, and package them into a Blueprint that includes the 5 customer-discovery experiments and 30/60/90 validation roadmap you should run next. Validation in the formal sense — talking to ~10 prospects using The Mom Test method, running a paid pre-order test, getting commitments of time/reputation/money — is work that only you can do. Treat our scores as directional and the Blueprint as a starting point, not as proof.
Because validation, in the rigorous sense used by frameworks like Christensen’s Jobs-to-be-Done, Ulwick’s Outcome-Driven Innovation, Steve Blank’s Customer Development, and Fitzpatrick’s Mom Test, requires evidence from real prospects in your specific market — commitments, pre-orders, paid pilots. We can surface and score the opportunity from public data, but we cannot stand in for the customer conversations that constitute validation. Calling ourselves a validation service would overpromise. Calling ourselves an evidence-backed opportunity-discovery funnel is honest, and turns out to be the most valuable position we can occupy in your workflow.
Each idea is scored on six dimensions: demand, market gap, trend, competition, monetization, and feasibility. Scores range from 0-100, with 70+ being strong opportunities, 40-69 fair, and below 40 weak. The overall Idea Score is a calibrated composite of the six dimensions — treat it as directional, not absolute.
An Idea Report is the full breakdown of a single idea — the 6-dimension scores with reasoning, evidence quotes, competitor landscape, market signals, and directional recommendations. It unlocks instantly inside the app. A Blueprint Pack is a separate, deeper 6-document PDF you commission for one specific idea: Market & Opportunity Report, Opportunity Brief (risks, customer-discovery experiments, comparables, TAM/SAM/SOM, kill criteria, validation roadmap), PRD, Technical Architecture, Go-To-Market, and Execution Roadmap. The Idea Report helps you decide whether the opportunity is worth taking into validation; the Blueprint Pack is the supporting dossier that helps you run that validation and, if it works, build.
Free users can browse the entire idea catalog, see titles, score teasers, and the top niches each idea covers. Unlocking the full Idea Report (with all 6-dimension reasoning, competitor list, evidence, and recommendations) requires a paid plan, the 7-Day Trial, or an On-Demand pack. Blueprint Packs are paid only.
There are three paid plans: Indie ($19.99/mo) with unlimited Idea Reports + 2 Blueprint Packs/month. Founder ($39.99/mo) with unlimited Idea Reports + 5 Blueprint Packs/month. Studio ($59.99/mo) with unlimited Idea Reports + 10 Blueprint Packs/month. Annual plans available at ~17% off ($199.99 / $399.99 / $599.99). Free users can browse the catalog; full reports require a plan, the 7-day trial, or the on-demand option below.
Yes. The 7-Day Trial ($4.99) is a one-time purchase (one per account ever) that grants 3 Idea Reports + 1 Blueprint Pack with integrated Opportunity Brief. The On-Demand ($14.99) option grants 3 Idea Reports + 1 Blueprint bundle — you can buy it as many times as you want. Credits from On-Demand never expire; trial credits expire after the 7-day window.
On day 8 your trial ends and you return to the Free tier — nothing auto-renews and you are never charged a second time. You keep any Idea Reports you already unlocked (those stay readable forever). Unused trial credits do expire at the end of the 7-day window, so use them within the trial.
It depends. Subscription monthly Blueprint bundles are use-it-or-lose-it — they reset each billing cycle. On-Demand credits never expire — buy them whenever, use them whenever. Trial credits expire at the end of the 7-day trial window. Idea Reports you have already unlocked stay accessible forever, regardless of plan status.
The Blueprint Pack is a 6-document PDF generated for a specific idea: Market & Opportunity Report, Opportunity Brief, Product Requirements (PRD), Technical Architecture, Go-To-Market strategy, and Project Execution Roadmap. Delivered to your email within ~30 minutes. The Blueprint is a supporting research dossier, not a guarantee of market viability.
The Opportunity Brief is the second document in every Blueprint Pack. It includes a risk register ranked by severity, an opportunity register, comparable companies (winners and failed startups), TAM/SAM/SOM market sizing, five customer-discovery experiments you can run this week, a distribution channel ranking, a 30/60/90-day validation roadmap, kill criteria, a drop-in cold-outreach script, and landing-page copy — plus a suggested Build / Pivot / Pass decision framework. The experiments in this document are how you actually validate the idea; we provide the plan, your customers provide the conviction.
Yes. Open Research My Idea from the menu. Fill in the form — your idea description, niche, customer, problem, and a few hypotheses. The same scoring and Blueprint Pack pipeline runs on it, and the deliverable lands in your inbox in ~30 minutes. This consumes one Blueprint bundle credit (from your subscription, On-Demand pack, or Trial). Same caveat applies: this produces a research dossier and an experiment plan, not a guarantee — the customer-discovery work is still yours to run.
If you request a Blueprint Pack for an idea that has been generated before, you get it instantly — sent to your email and saved in the Downloads section — without waiting the usual ~30 minutes. Your bundle credit is still used (the deliverable is the same value to you), but you skip the wait.
Our scanners run on a scheduled basis. When new data comes in, existing idea scores get updated and new ideas are generated. Enable notifications to be alerted when high-scoring ideas matching your criteria appear.
Yes. You receive a summary push twice a day (morning and evening) with the count of new ideas matching your preferences — never one push per idea. You also get a push when a Blueprint Pack is ready and when a search you started finishes. Open Profile → Notification Settings to toggle push on/off, set a minimum score threshold, and pick which niches or product types to be alerted about. Notifications work even when the app is closed.
Yes, you can cancel anytime through Settings → Manage Subscription, which will redirect you to Google Play or the App Store. Your access continues until the end of your current billing period. Unused monthly bundle credits expire at period end (use-it-or-lose-it).
Subscription billing is handled by Apple App Store and Google Play. Refund requests for subscription fees must go through them directly — Apple usually approves a refund within the first 24 hours of a renewal, Google has a similar policy in Play Store. For Blueprint Packs and On-Demand purchases: once your Blueprint Pack has been generated and emailed, the deliverable is final and we are not able to refund it (the work has been done end-to-end). If a Blueprint Pack failed to generate, contact us and we will re-process it free of charge.
Yes. Open Profile → Delete Account. We send a confirmation email — you have 30 days to click the restore link in that email if you change your mind, after which everything (saved ideas, Blueprint Packs, credits, profile) is permanently removed. During the 30 days the account is invisible to you (login is blocked), but the link will bring it back instantly. If your 30-day window has expired and you try to log in, sign up again with the same email — we will let you start fresh.
Tap the “Save Idea” button on any idea detail page. Saved ideas appear in your Saved tab where you can select two ideas to compare side by side. You can also tag ideas with statuses like Exploring, Building, Maybe Later, or Archived.
If your search criteria is very specific, it may take a few minutes to gather and score relevant data. You can leave the screen — we’ll send a push notification when your results are ready. If it’s been more than 5 minutes, try broadening your niche or target audience.
